Curtis Main reveals that his Dundee teammates unanimously supported the tradition of walking from Dens Park to Tannadice on derby day.
This long-standing custom in the City of Discovery will continue on Sunday when the Dark Blues make their way to Tannadice Street for the season’s opening match.
Dundee’s players had the option to either walk or not before the sold-out clash.
First-time derby participant Main noted there was no disagreement among the players.
“It was discussed in the dressing room, and the preference was unanimous,” Main said.
“Some players have derby experience, while others don’t, so it will be a valuable experience for those who haven’t.
“That’s why we want to maintain the tradition.
“This is my first derby, and I am eager for the whole experience.”
Main, who has participated in several derbies in his career, including Middlesbrough versus Sunderland, finds the Dundee derby uniquely appealing.
“This derby is unique because it’s literally across the road,” he said.
“I’ve played in hostile derbies like Sunderland vs. Boro, but I’m especially excited about this one. I’ll be able to compare after experiencing it.
“I’m looking forward to it, as is everyone else.”
The 32-year-old, signed at St Mirren by United boss Jim Goodwin, added: “Starting the season by breaking that long-standing record would be ideal.
“We aim to secure three points. Everyone is focused on that goal.
“Winning the derby gives us bragging rights and an early momentum boost, which is crucial in this tough league. A fast start is important.”
