West Coast Eagles star Reuben Ginbey has been charged by WA Police after allegedly being caught urinating in public.
The 20-year-old was in attendance at a music event over the weekend in Western Australia when the incident allegedly unfolded.
The club confirmed in a statement that the young gun was also charged with failing to comply with WA Police directions by not giving his personal details.
He is set to appear in court later in January.
“The West Coast Eagles advise that AFL player Reuben Ginbey has been charged after (allegedly) urinating in public at a music event on Saturday evening and (allegedly) failing to comply with WA Police directions by not giving his personal details,” the statement read.
“The club has advised the AFL and, as the matter is now before the courts, will make no further comment at this time.”
Ginbey was selected by the Eagles with the ninth pick in the 2022 draft with the dashing defender playing 40 games since making his debut in 2023.
He played in every game for the club throughout the 2024 season where the Eagles won five games and finished third last on the ladder.
The club are in the thick of a rebuild having won only 10 games across the past three seasons and will enter the 2025 season under the leadership of new coach Andrew McQualter.
McQualter was unveiled as the new Eagles coach in late September after the club parted ways with 2018 premiership coach Adam Simpson.
McQualter, who joined Melbourne as an assistant coach under Simon Goodwin after he was overlooked for the Richmond job, said he had dreamt for a decade of becoming a senior coach.
“I have been working towards this moment for the last 10 years and I’m thrilled to be appointed as coach of the West Coast Eagles,” McQualter said.
“I am aware that there is much work to do and I am definitely up for that.
“There is some exciting young talent at the club with a mix of outstanding players and I couldn’t be more excited to get over there and get to work with them.”
