The Cardinals are on track to have one of the top picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, which would put them in a position to reset at quarterback.
However, according to offensive coordinator Drew Petzing, Arizona already has its starter for 2024 and beyond.
“Feel really good about where Kyler [Murray] is at as a franchise quarterback. And he’s absolutely that,” he told Adam Schefter during an appearance on “The Adam Schefter Podcast.”
Murray returned from a 2022 torn ACL in Week 10 and is 79-of-130 for 864 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in four starts.
He was his sharpest in Arizona’s 24-10 Week 13 win over the Steelers. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, here were his three most improbable completions.
The Cardinals are projected to have the No. 3 pick in the 2024 draft based on team records through Week 14. The top two quarterbacks in the class — USC’s Caleb Williams and North Carolina’s Drake Maye — will likely be the top two picks unless the Bears throw a curveball with the No. 1 overall selection.
If Williams and Maye go 1-2 and the Cardinals pick third, they would be able to add arguably the best player in the entire class, Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. A 2023 Heisman finalist, Harrison Jr. had 67 receptions, 1,211 yards (18.1 yards per catch) and 14 touchdowns this season. (Note: Harrison Jr. recently left the door open for a return to Ohio State.)
An offense with wide receiver Marquise Brown, Harrison Jr., and tight end Trey McBride, who has 28 receptions for 323 yards since Murray’s return, would be a strong foundation for Arizona. It would also be a better decision than adding a quarterback and going back to square one.
