Steven Davis takes to Instagram to insist he’s focusing on his injury rehab after the “huge honour” of briefly becoming Rangers manager.
The Northern Ireland legend, 38, briefly took the reins at Ibrox following the sacking of Michael Beale and took charge of clashes against Aris Limassol and St Mirren.
Admitting that the situation was a “difficult moment”, Steven Davis has explained on Instagram that he is now back to focusing on his recovery from a devastating cruciate ligament injury.
The comments do little to solve the mystery surrounding the Rangers future of the legendary midfielder, who was out of contact in the summer of 2023.
Steven Davis’ Instagram post reads:
“A huge honour to be asked to step in and be interim manager at Rangers FC at a difficult moment.
“An experience I learnt a lot from and will always cherish.
“Thank you to the club for putting their trust in me and to the fans and all the staff for the support you all showed me during this short period.
“Was great to work with Philippe Clement and it’s been a really encouraging start for the team under his tenure and like you all I hope it will be a long and successful partnership and I know that’s what he alongside his staff will demand everyday.
“Excited to see how it develops as I continue my rehab.”
Steven Davis Instagram post gives little away
It’s clear Steven Davis has a lot of support as he steps up his injury rehab, with even Rangers predecessor and former manager Michael Beale liking the Instagram post.
A leader on and off the pitch during a glittering career north and south of the border, they really don’t make them like Steven Davis very often and his absence is a huge blow to not just the Rangers squad but the game as a whole.
However the Instagram post, alongside comments last week about not being able to play with his kids yet following the injury, suggest a Rangers return is majorly ambitious.
Whilst everyone connected to Rangers will support Davis in his recovery, come the end of this season there is a major decision on the horizon for the Ulsterman.
British football’s record male cap holder (140) may well be forced to hang up his boots but if he does there is always a career in coaching for Davo.
One of British football’s most respected players of this generation and a Rangers legend to boot, perhaps this won’t be the last time we see Steven Davis in the Ibrox dugout.
