Carlton Palmer, speaking to Football League World, highlighted the complexities of the potential transfer. He pointed out that while Troyes paid £2.5 million for Ugbo in 2022,
Sheffield Wednesday might be reluctant to exceed that amount. The financial capability of Stoke, QPR, and Birmingham could influence the outcome, especially as QPR is poised to receive funds from the sale of Sinclair Armstrong.
Palmer remains optimistic, noting that if Ugbo remains firm in his preference for a move to Sheffield Wednesday, a deal could eventually be reached. He praised the extensive transfer activity led by manager Danny Rohl, suggesting that Ugbo could be the final piece needed to enhance the team’s prospects for the upcoming season.
Sheffield Wednesday has already spent over £2 million on Valery and Kobacki and has yet to generate income from player sales. The club’s eagerness to sign Ugbo is evident, as he could significantly bolster their attacking options and improve their chances in the Championship.
However, the financial constraints and the need to sell players before making further substantial investments pose a challenge.
