Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou now wants to sign Matt O’Riley, his former Celtics star, to a Tottenham Hotspur contract as soon as possible.
That’s in line with a Sportsynergy report that stated Celtic will demand a club record amount in exchange for selling O’Riley to Tottenham.
This season, O’Riley has been fantastic for Brendan Rodgers, and his recently inked deal has bolstered the club’s position.
But according to this story, Spurs and Postecoglou, who have been monitoring the midfield player’s development, are quite interested.
Furthermore, the fascination extends beyond Tottenham.
The Danish youth international is reportedly attracting interest from Brentford, Brighton Hove Albion, and West Ham United.
With a deal worth £25 million, Celtic set a record sale that saw Jota depart for Saudi Arabia this summer.
At a comparable amount, Kieran Tierney’s transfer to Arsenal represents the second biggest sale.
O’Riley, who is currently regarded as “the best player in Scotland,” is a player whose moves would be expected to overshadow those.
Tottenham has been monitoring O’Riley’s development at Celtic.
According to this story, Celtic would only consider offers from Tottenham if they surpassed the £30 million threshold.
Of course, with Postecoglou in charge, Spurs already have a strong midfield.
O’Riley might be able to return to England, though, if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg decides to leave.
Oliver Skipp would not be too happy with further competition for the position considering his plans for the first team position.
But in order to be competitive, Tottenham will need to bolster their depth, and O’Riley of Celtic would be the ideal match.
As of right now, Alan Shearer doesn’t think this Tottenham team will win the league this year.
The commentator hasn’t wavered from picking Manchester City to win the championship.
That viewpoint might be put to the test as the season progresses, though, if Postecoglou keeps bringing in players as shrewdly as he did throughout the summer.
O’Riley might be the next piece in Tottenham’s puzzle, as they appear to be building something exceptional.
