The Seattle Seahawks are cutting former Steelers outside linebacker Hamilcar Rashed from their practice squad, the team announced on Tuesday. Rashed was with the Steelers’ organization for training camp last year and earned a spot on the practice squad to start the season.
Rashed’s stint in Pittsburgh went south when he suffered an injury. He suffered a significant lower-body injury that forced him to be sidelined. He would later get healthy and sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who released him after training camp this offseason.
The Steelers originally claimed Rashed off waivers from the New York Jets and he seemed to be put into a position to make the team as a backup edge rusher. He had four tackles and a sack in two preseason games after joining Pittsburgh in 2022.
But when the Steelers traded for Malik Reed at the end of training camp, Rashed’s spot on the 53-man roster never materialized. He could have had an opportunity at playing time as well, but his injury forced that to be cut short.
Rashed originally joined the the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State in 2021. He was released after training camp and spent the entire season on the New York practice squad before re-singing for 2022. He was waived by the Jets on Aug. 8.
The 6-foot-2, 251-pound edge rusher played in one game while elevated from the Jets practice squad in 2021, playing 18 snaps, 16 on defense, and recording one tackle.
