Ruben Selles Breaks Silence on HMRC, Wage Concerns, and Reading FC Takeover

Reading FC boss Ruben Selles has said that it will be ‘really stupid’ if the club does not pay HMRC and wages on time this month.

In a turbulent campaign off the field, the Royals have been hit with points deductions for a third successive season for financial misdemeanours.

However, after sealing their League One safety last weekend at Barnsley, the Royals boss is optimistic that there will be no more financial issues which could lead to points deductions.

With a takeover still in progress as Dai Yongge’s reign at Reading is set to come to an end, fans are waiting patiently in the coming weeks for an official announcement.

“I’m not getting any (information) because of the confidentiality. I am just waiting to see,” said Selles.

“I just expect in the coming days that HMRC and the wages are going to be paid in the proper form as it happened last month.

“People who are making the takeover will not want that situation at the end of the season

“I think it would be really, really stupid to not do it. Not paying the wages and HMRC now would be the most stupid thing and then we would need to point some fingers if that happened.

“I didn’t get any (information) in a different direction, but I know this club. I have been here for a year now and I hope nothing happens, but if it happens then it will be the most stupid thing.”

The Royals have just two games remaining to complete the League One season.

They are in 17th spot heading into tomorrow’s game against relegation threatened Burton Albion.

The Brewers are in 20th spot and are just two points above the relegation zone and Cheltenham Town have a game in hand.
