When Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns scored his 30,000th point against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday, he became a member of an exclusive group. Durant needed 26 points to reach the scoring threshold before the contest. By the end of the third quarter, the Suns forward had scored enough points to become the seventh player in NBA history to do it.
KD got fouled and attempted two free throws in the latter minutes of the third period. The 15-time All-Star is the fastest player to accomplish the accomplishment since Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls, according to StatMamba. Interestingly, Durant’s Achilles injury kept him out of action for the whole 2019–20 season.
Even with that setback, however, the 6-foot-11 forward cruised his way to the 30k-point club.
Durant is one of the best scorers the league has ever seen. With his height and natural talent, the two-time champion makes it easy to score over any defender in front of him. Ahead of his record-breaking game against the Grizzlies, NBA Insider Duane Rankin got a chance to talk to former star Dirk Nowitzki.
The German legend spoke highly about Durant and his talent when it comes to scoring.
“He’s 7 feet and he plays like a two guard,” Nowitzki said. “That’s basically what it comes down to. He’s got the handles, he’s got the deep shot, he’s got the in between game. He’s also good at driving and finishing. To me, he’s probably one of the purest scorers this game has ever seen. That’s how good he is. He’s got the touch, he’s got the length. Even though you think you’re guarding him well, he’ll rise up and shoot right over the top of basically anyone.
