Ibrox legend John Brown has backed Ross McCausland to save Rangers millions in transfer fees after he agreed a new contract with the club.
Sky Sports reported on Monday 27 November that the 20-year-old Northern Ireland international has agreed terms on a new contract until 2027, putting an end to speculation about his future ahead of the January transfer window.
And Brown, speaking to Daily Record (28 November), believes that getting him and other top academy talents tied down should be the goal to save millions of pounds in transfer fees.
“I don’t think we’ve had too many academy players coming through in recent times. Any good ones have moved down south and we’ve cashed in on them,” he said.
“It would be good to see two or three breaking into the first team. It saves the manager spending millions on players if two or three of the guys break through.”
There is nothing better as a football fan than watching a young player stepping into the first-team and living our dream for us on the pitch.
Every Rangers fan grew up wishing they could become a first-team player at Ibrox and become a hero to their own people, and McCausland now has the chance to do exactly that.
The same can be said for the likes of Leon King, Alex Lowry and even the likes of young Bailey Rice who is also supposedly on the brink of breaking through in the next couple of seasons.
Creating a core of young academy players who can help us success on the pitch is every football fan’s dream, and we have the academy to be able to develop players into exactly what we need them to be to help us improve.
McCausland has the chance and we’ll all be cheering for him and living vicariously through him, so we hope he can go all the way and lift trophies upon trophies in the famous blue shirt.
