PAULO Bernardo has stated that he wants to remain with Celtic after this season.
The Portuguese youth international is now with the Hoops on a season-long loan, but as part of the deal, the club has the option to purchase the player.
He is excited to be a regular member of manager Brendan Rodgers’ squad, but he is aware that in order to guarantee a long-term spot, he must perform well and gain more playing time.
And since Reo Hatate is out until the new year, it might happen in the upcoming weeks.
Bernardo was the substitution against Atletico Madrid, when the Japanese midfielder pulled up, and then took the shirt at Easter Road for his first start in the Hoops.
Speaking candidly about his future, Paulo Bernardo stated that he was eager to relocate permanently to Glasgow but that he would need to prove his value to the manager over the next months.
Saying,
“I had to show the manager more and more in the time I had. I’ll bounce back. Might I stay? In my opinion.
To get that opportunity, though, I need to play a little bit more. Since moving to Celtic, I’ve had a pleasant life. The club and the city appeal to me. The club is enormous. Although I didn’t have much opportunity to learn about Celtic before coming here, I have had the impression that it is a really large club. I’m thrilled to be supporting the team and to be here.
“I have to exercise patience. Every player desires to participate. To obtain this opportunity, though, I must work hard. And I have to work even harder to keep progressing and show the coach that I can play a lot more. I have to continue with this work.
“The coach has advised me to wait patiently for my opportunity to present itself. He has also instructed me to work hard and maintain focus in this situation. I’m fine after the weekend with my legs. I had to be ready for that since the days leading up to the Atletico game were difficult for me.
The amount Celtic would have to pay Benfica is unknown, but if he plays as well as he did against Atletico, the club will most likely look into it.
