The chance for Philippe Clement to win silverware so early in his tenure as Rangers manager won’t have been missed but he doesn’t seem the type to over celebrate.
Thank you, next, looks to be how the new Gers boss approaches victory but after such a long drought, lifting the Viaplay Cup would be a massive boost for fans in particular.
Given the timing of the final, and a congested fixture list, it is unlikely that Philippe Clement will be demanding a parade for his Rangers squad should they be successful, it would seem that Aberdeen have other plans as reported by Aberdeen Live.
Philippe Clement doesn’t need Rangers victory parade
At a recent Aberdeen City Council committee meeting, the subject of a victory parade was brought up with plans being put in place should they win.
Going one step further Councillor M. Tauqeer Malik reckons that history will repeat itself and that the previous meeting between the two sides wasn’t a one off when he said:
“I am very optimistic that Aberdeen Football Club will be victorious. I am optimistic that we will make it.”
There is a league meeting at Pittodrie this weekend to deal with first but, hopefully, Philippe Clement and the mentality shift he has imparted onto his Rangers squad erodes this current level of optimism.
It isn’t the same team that capitulated under Michael Beale and there is a steel and determination that has been missing for some time.
One of the problems after winning 55 was that it was celebrated as if it was the end goal, the final result that we had all been dreaming of.
Even the board seemed to have this opinion.
Instead, it should have been seen as the start of something, the beginning of a legacy or period of dominance but the following season was nothing more than a hangover.
Should Rangers win the Viaplay Cup, the celebrations should end when the players get on the bus to leave Hampden and preparations for the next game should begin.
Winning trophies has to become the norm again, leave the celebrating to the fans.
