Manchester United will pursue a move for Marc Guehi if they fail to secure the services of 21-year-old Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
According to a report by Give Me Sport, Jarrad Branthwaite is the subject of interest from Manchester United. However, the Red Devils are keeping their options open and will pursue Marc Guehi if a deal for the 21-year-old Everton defender does not see the light of day. Crystal Palace will demand around £60 million to part ways with the Englishman.
Jarrad Branthwaite has established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in the Premier League this season. The 21-year-old benefited from a loan spell at PSV Eindhoven in the 2022/23 campaign, helping him grow in confidence. And he played his part in Everton having one of the best defensive records in the top flight this term.
Branthwaite’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. However, widespread reports have most heavily linked him with Manchester United amid the club’s search for a young and top-class centre-back.
Manchester United will dip their toes in the market for a centre-back in the summer transfer window. Raphael Varane will depart from Old Trafford as a free agent on July 1, while Jonny Evans faces an uncertain future at the club. In addition, Harry Maguire is not certain to be at Manchester United next season.
Jarrad Branthwaite has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester United. However, the Red Devils are keeping their options open and have identified Marc Guehi as the primary alternative to the 21-year-old. The Englishman will cost around £60 million in the summer transfer window.
Guehi is a graduate of Chelsea’s fabled youth division. However, he failed to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge and joined Crystal Palace in July 2021. Since then, the 23-year-old has come leaps and bounds, becoming one of the best defenders in the Premier League. Guehi’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, alerting top clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
Recent reports have claimed that Marc Guehi will likely leave Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window. However, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United will cough up £60 million to sign the Englishman from Crystal Palace.
