Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Brett Kulak has opened up about his departure from the iconic franchise, making bold remarks about his time there and why leaving was ultimately the right decision.
Kulak, who now plays for the Edmonton Oilers, reflected on his experience with the Canadiens and suggested that while it wasn’t all bad, his move to Edmonton was a significant improvement.
“With all due respect to the team, it was a good time for me in Montreal, but I needed to leave,” Kulak shared. “I don’t regret the decision at all. I’m now at a point in my career where I’m surrounded by people who truly care and value their players, and that makes a huge difference.”
Kulak’s comments implied that his time with the Canadiens, while professionally valuable, lacked the personal connection he has now found in Edmonton. He highlighted how his current environment has allowed him to thrive both on and off the ice, adding that being part of a team that supports its players has reignited his passion for the game.
“Looking back, leaving was the best thing I could have done for my career. I’m in a place where I feel appreciated, and that motivates me to perform at my best. I’m enjoying hockey again and that’s something I’m incredibly grateful for,” Kulak added.
