Brisbane has parted ways with defender Jaxon Prior after deciding not to offer him a contract for 2025. The Lions also delisted mid-season recruit Darcy Craven and defender Darragh Joyce but plan to re-sign them in the upcoming rookie draft.
Prior, selected by the Lions in the 2019 draft with pick No. 59, made his debut in 2020 and played 39 games over five seasons. Known for his versatility, the 23-year-old defender from Western Australia played both as a small and tall intercept defender.
Brisbane’s football manager, Danny Daly, acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, praising Prior’s development and contributions to the club’s AFL and VFL success. Daly thanked Prior, his partner Bronte, and his family for their support over the years.
Prior is the third Lion delisted this off-season, joining ruckman Kalin Lane and Academy graduate Carter Michael. Meanwhile, Irish defender Joyce, who appeared in six games in 2024, and small forward Craven will be reselected through November’s rookie draft.
