ESPN anchor John Buccigross joined Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHLer, now analyst, Colby Cohen on Daily Faceoff Live to discuss the debut of ‘showtime’ Patrick Kane with the Detroit Red Wings and how he looks to fit into their system after last night’s 6-5 loss to the San Jose Sharks.
Bucci offers his thoughts and why he compares this Red Wings squad to last season’s Seattle Kraken team. He also explains the similarities on the sniper front, drawing comparisons between Alex DeBrincat and Jared McCann and why he believes the Red Wings are playoff-bound.
Tyler Yaremchuk: John Buccigross making his DFO Live debut. Let’s start with what we saw last night, what did you make of Patrick Kane’s debut last night against the San Jose Sharks?
John Buccigross: I like the fit, this is a good team with lots of speed, he needs to play fast. Obviously, at his age, he’s more of a facilitator than a goal scorer and he’s got guys who can finish, Alex DeBrincat being one of them and David Perron is a finisher. I just think on the powerplay in general he can make it better. They have a couple of guys that need to be better to be that full team.
John Buccigross: They kind of remind of me of Seattle from last year, DeBrincat is kind of Jared McCann the all four lines are similar; they got a sniper on each line, and a finisher and so I like Detroit and the vibe overall. Remember Seattle beat Colorado in the playoffs without great goaltending, we are in a high-scoring era, and you don’t really need great goaltending to win anymore so they kind of have a Seattle vibe to me and I think they’ll make the playoffs.
