Tranmere Rovers are pleased to announce that Joe Murphy has signed a new one-year contract with the club, which will keep him on as both a player and goalkeeping coach for the 2024/25 season.
Joe is an important element of both the coaching staff and the playing squad, acting as a backup to Luke McGee while also trying to improve the other goalkeepers’ talents in training.
Joe has made 45 appearances since returning to the club in 2020, including six this season.
On signing his new deal, Joe said: “Thanks to the SWA for all their support over the four years since I returned to the Club where it all started for me. It’s been an honour to come back and represent the Club both as a player and now as a coach over the last two years.
“For me to extend for another year is an absolute honour and a privilege to wear that badge on my chest. Hopefully next year will be an even better season and we can really push on.”
Manager Nigel Adkins said: “I am delighted that Joe has extended his contract. He is still an exceptional goalkeeper and that has been demonstrated every day in training.
“Joe is a seasoned player who leads by example on the training ground with his professionalism and attitude.
“His composure and clarity of communication in training are outstanding, which helps with the coaching process.
“As a goalkeeping coach, I’ve been impressed with how he’s worked with Luke McGee, who’s had a good first season with us.”
“Joe is a valued member of our coaching team and I am really looking forward to working with him next season.”
