Jose Cifuentes, a midfielder for Rangers, hasn’t exactly had the best of starts at Ibrox, and he needs to overcome Philippe Clement.
Over the summer, the Ecuadorian was one of Michael Beale’s main objectives, and there was a lot of curiosity about him and his potential contributions.
The management made every effort to sign him in the summer since he did not want to wait until the end of the year to do so.
This meant that the club would have to shell out a transfer fee rather than sign him for free when his contract would’ve expired.
It’s fair to say that there will be people behind the scenes who will regret this decision, and backing Beale may not have been the best idea in the world.
A news outlet in Ecuador, Primacias (16 November), labeled his performance for the national team as “terrible,” and his displays for his club have been more or less the same.
He does face a mammoth job to convince Clement he deserves to stay at the club and may be running out of time with the club having the option to loan him out in January.
Since joining in the summer, he’s just made four league starts for the Rangers and none since the start of October, which means Clement has yet to show his trust in him.
He’s given him a paltry few minutes off the bench, and if the 24-year-old is failing to impress on the international stage too, an exit may be on the cards.
