Wolves’ sporting director Matt Hobbs has admitted that Hugo Bueno had ‘serious interest’ from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.
The Molineux official was speaking in the wake of Bueno signing a new contract with the club, after a brilliant year in the first-team.
Bueno made his debut last season against Nottingham Forest, and quickly established himself as a regular starter.
Julen Lopetegui took a real shine to him, and said earlier this year that the youngster’s professionalism and work ethic could take him to high levels.
As a result of Bueno’s fine form, Hobbs has now confirmed that there was indeed interest from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window…

Hobbs has been singing Bueno’s praises after he signed a new contract at Molineux. The youngster will now be with the club until the summer of 2028.
It is a nice reward, for a player who has worked his socks off to get to where he is today, and someone with serious potential.
The new contract will hopefully help to fend off interested clubs, and there is one club out there who may be a little disappointed about Bueno’s new deal.
According to Hobbs, Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig were really keen to sign the Spaniard during the last window. He said (via Wolves Express): “From there (his full debut vs Crystal Palace), he just got more comfortable. Spanish U21 call-up, thoroughly deserved, serious interest from RB Leipzig in the summer… the whole journey, there’s been so many people that have played a part but the one constant is how good a professional Hugo’s been throughout it all.”
Wolves right to keep hold of Bueno
Hobbs didn’t state if an offer had definitely been made by Leipzig, but it was reported in September that the German side did lodge a bid of some kind. It’s certainly a relief that Wolves were not tempted into offloading the talented youngster.
Bueno was absolutely brilliant last season and really nailed down that left-back position, thoroughly deserving to play the majority of the games after such an impressive full debut against Palace.
He may not have seen much game time this season due to injury and the form of Rayan Ait-Nouri, but Bueno stands to become a top player in the future.
He already has a brilliant all-round game and it has been mentioned so often now that he has a tremendous work ethic.
Hopefully, Bueno will be a Wolves player for many years to come – the contract he’s just signed will definitely make it harder for other clubs to poach him.
