How Maguire has influenced a Man Utd teammate’s decision on a transfer

The finalization of Manchester United’s January transfer window roster is underway, and the Old Trafford team is expected to grant Anthony Martial a stay of execution.

There is a feeling that manager Erik ten Hag still has a lot of deadwood in his squad that needs to be cut after a dismal start to the season, but a major makeover is unlikely to occur during the mid-season transfer window.

Given that Martial has only scored once this season and has mostly been used as a substitute while still having a contract until the end of the season—meaning this is United’s last chance to secure a fee for him before he leaves for nothing in July—he may have been one of the more obvious players to offload.

But according to TeamTalk, Martial wants to stay at Manchester United, and the team is willing to keep him, at least through the summer.

Rasmus Hojlund is still looking for his first Premier League goal, and Martial is thought to be a useful backup for him while Ten Hag’s team continues to compete for hardware on multiple fronts.

Martial, however, is said to have found comfort in Harry Maguire’s comeback at Manchester United, giving him hope that he can improve his own circumstances.

After two calm displays and a game-winning goal against FC Copenhagen this week in the Champions League, the center back is back in favor at Old Trafford.

It looks like Maguire won’t be leaving in January thanks to his recent success, and midfielder Scott McTominay won’t be leaving the team in the middle of the season either.

Conversely, Jadon Sancho is for sale as his ongoing battle with Ten Hag drags on with no end in sight, and Donny van de Beek, who is now out injured, will be placed on the transfer list in January.
