England rugby league head coach Shaun Wane and captain George Williams have heaped praise on young Wigan Warriors star Junior Nsemba.
The 20-year-old took his career to new heights across 2024, being an almost ever-present in the all-conquering Wigan Warriors side, starting in both the Challenge Cup final and Super League Grand Final.
Being one of the best back-rowers in the league – and arguably rugby league as a whole – at such a young age is very impressive, and there’s hope that he can be a key member of the England side for many years to come.
He’s yet to make his debut for England, but that may be about to change.
Speaking about him and teammate Liam Marshall, Wane said to the media: “I’m not fully decided yet to be honest. I’m meeting all of the coaching staff this afternoon but they’ve got a good chance, both of them players.”
Nsemba suffered a head injury scare at Old Trafford, but Wane confirmed that he is okay, and will be available to play against Samoa this weekend.
On why he has been selected in the squad, the head coach revealed: “It’s his form. The last six or seven weeks (of the season) have seen his form for Wigan be standout.
“There are things in his game that he needs to improve on but his bally-carrying is as strong as anybody. He’s still a young kid, he’s still learning his trade and I think being in the camp with people like Chris Hill and those seasoned professionals will do him the world of good.
“He’ll get a taste of Test rugby in the next two weeks.”
George Williams also added: “He’s been unbelievable for Wigan this year. Like Shaun said, he’s just got better and better and better.
“Hopefully, I’ll get to play with him.”
