George Williams, the captain of England’s rugby league team, expressed his excitement about leading his country in the upcoming first Test against Samoa in his hometown of Wigan. Reflecting on his journey, Williams said captaining England, especially in Wigan, is a dream come true.
Williams, who has been captain since April 2023, has played over 20 international matches and led England to a 3-0 series win over Tonga last year. Ahead of the Samoa clash at The Brick Community Stadium, Williams acknowledged the talent in Samoa’s team but emphasized his belief in England’s development and potential.
He highlighted the pride he feels in leading the team, particularly with his family and friends in attendance. Despite the emotional significance of the occasion, Williams stressed the importance of staying focused on the game.
Williams also spoke highly of two uncapped players, Junior Nsemba and Liam Marshall, who will join the England squad for the Test. Both have had impressive seasons with Wigan, and Williams is eager to support their transition into the national team.
The first Test against Samoa will be played on Sunday, 27 October, with the second match following on 2 November. Both games will be televised, and tickets are available on the Rugby Football League website.
