Frank Lampard’s Bold Admission About Coventry City’s January Transfer Plans Sends Fans Into Frenzy

Frank Lampard has spoken about Coventry City’s plan for the January transfer window and the possibility of adding fresh players to help with the push during the second half of the season.

The head coach revealed he’s had conversations with Sky Blues owner Doug King and head of recruitment Dean Austin and has already started to identify areas on the pitch that might benefit from strengthening, albeit his main focus remains working with the players he has inherited.

But he admits that, ultimately, he’ll be judged further down the line on how he improves the team and therefore has to get that right.

Asked by CoventryLive if he’s had any conversations with King or Austin about the January window, he said: “Yes, we have had some conversations. I’ll apologise that I can’t tell you much about them. But I think when you come in in December and into a squad; we have players here and good competition in the squad and my first job is to absolutely work with the players.

“We have done that pretty well in the first few weeks and got some good results. You always want more but we feel like we have done OK. That has to continue as my first job and then if we can improve the squad then those conversations are important.”

He added: “I have found Doug and Dean very open, very lined up and want to communicate, and I’m the same. And we will continue to work that way through the window and if there are ways in which we can help the squad and bring players in then I am sure we will be looking at that.

“It’s important in this league, where there tends to be a lot of business in January at certain clubs, and if you feel you can do something to help push in the second part of the season… So we’ll see.”

Asked if he’s started to identify areas of the team that might benefit from a bit of strength in depth, he said: “Yeah, and that’s part of my job. It’s not just my job. As a head coach you work with the team but I was brought in here for a reason and you have to have an opinion and you have to review what can improve the team.

“You’ll be judged on that further down the line so you had better be pretty firm in your convictions and try to get that bit right in conjunction with the club.

“I have got ideas and opinions but it’s very important for me to not get too far ahead of myself. I have got opinions where we could maybe be stronger but, again, my first thought is what we have got right now and we’ll work with that because I have only had three weeks and four games and I don’t want to make too many early decisions because players and situations can surprise you.

“There might be things that happen that we don’t even know now, so you have to be very considered about that, and that picture can change.”
