According to reports, Sadio Mane, a legend of Liverpool and currently playing for Al-Nassr FC in the Saudi Pro League, has agreed to take over a fourth-tier French team.
The forward plans to purchase Championnat National 2 team Bourges Foot 18, according to La Journal Du Centre. Mane has already contacted the town’s mayor ahead of the announcement of the deal during a news conference today at Bourges Town Hall.
Mane reportedly “put his hand in his pocket” to acquire players for Bourges, who are currently 13th in the table, and it is said that the area should see the implementation of a “sporting and social development project.”
Mane was a Liverpool player for six years. The Senegal international joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2016 and scored 120 goals in 269 appearances. He was an important member of Jurgen Klopp’s team as they won six major championships, including the Champions League and Premier League.
Mane chose to sign for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, but had a challenging campaign. He scored 12 goals in 38 appearances, but after hitting teammate Leroy Sane in the locker room during a Champions League loss to Manchester City, he received a suspension and a €500,000 fine.
After only a year, the 31-year-old left Bayern and signed a contract with Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia in August. Eight goals have been scored by him in 18 games thus far.
