Mark Wilson has rejoined Partick Thistle as a full-time football coach.
The 39-year-old former Celtic and Dundee United player has been appointed manager of the Jaguars’ under-18 team after Craig Dargo, the academy director for the Championship club, pounced to add him to the staff. Wilson, who previously enjoyed a spell as manager of Airdrie, joins the team three years after resigning from his position as Brechin City’s manager.
Dargo disclosed that the team has pulled off a “coup” by acquiring Wilson, who has competed at the top level for the Hoops in the Champions League and Scotland’s national team.
“We are really happy to have Mark join the Thistle Weir Youth Academy. We consider it a success for the academy that we were able to secure his services,” the speaker declared.
In addition to his vast playing experience, Mark is someone the players can learn from in terms of good habits off the field and his technical skill set on it. He knows exactly what it takes to contribute to the development of new talent.
“Mark will be a valuable addition to our already talented, driven, and committed coaching team, who are all focused on player development and the academy’s future.
“I’m thrilled that Mark is the newest member of the team, and it’s evident that all of our players are eager to absorb knowledge from the experiences of our coaching staff.”
Wilson went on, “I am thrilled to be a part of the Thistle Weir Youth Academy and have had a great time getting to know the players throughout the first few weeks of training.
“I knew this was an opportunity that truly excited me when I initially spoke with Craig about the role.
“The Thistle pathway has been developed over many years, and players like Ben Stanway, Zander MacKenzie, James Lyon, and Ricco Diack who are making their way into the first team should serve as role models for those who are still in the under-18 division and lower.
“I’m very driven and excited to collaborate with the entire coaching staff to support these young players in their continued development and provide them with the resources they require to realize their full potential and have a prosperous career in the game.”
Wilson has been having a great time in the media, frequently appearing on Sky Sports and Clyde Superscoreboard. He has also assisted Clyde in a coaching role.
