In order to cover Kirk Cousins’ 2023 NFL season absence, the Minnesota Vikings acquired an experienced quarterback. The Arizona Cardinals sent Josh Dobbs and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Vikings in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round pick, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. The Vikings stated that Cousins had sustained a torn Achilles during the game against the Green Bay Packers, which prompted the trade.

The Vikings took action in an attempt to advance to the postseason. After winning its past three games, the squad is now 4-4 and, if the playoffs began today, would qualify. On Tuesday, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell informed SiriusXM that Dobbs might participate in Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. However, it’s likely rookie QB
This is the second trade for Dobbs this year. The fact that Kyler Murray is returning to the team following a December knee injury is one of the reasons the Cardinals were prepared to deal Dobbs. With the Cardinals, Dobbs participated in nine games and completed 1,569 passes for eight touchdowns and five interceptions. Dobbs signed a contract with the Cleveland Browns in March and was a member of the team prior to the season. In August, the Cardinals acquired Dobbs from the Browns.
The fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft saw the Pittsburgh Steelers pick Dobbs. He has been up and down in the league, spending time with the Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Steelers, in addition to shorter stints with the Browns and Steelers.
“Firstly, I admire a guy who is currently playing and the opportunity that he’s had to that Arizona team move around in football the way they have and compete in a lot of games against some really good opponents,” O’Connell told Sports Illustrated. “His skill set has always appealed to me because it allows him to make plays both inside and outside the pocket and offer some athleticism.” I believe that he is a very clever man, which allows us to quickly bring him in and attempt to get him ready for any potential snaps.”
