Exeter City, a League One team, has expressed interest in Northern Ireland striker Josh Magennis.
The 33-year-old, who has played for Aberdeen, Charlton, and Hull City, was recently released by Wigan Athletic after more than two years with the club.
Magennis, known for his performance in Northern Ireland’s Euro 2016 campaign, turns 34 in August. However, he told the Belfast Telegraph last month that he has no intention of retiring from either club or international football.
After achieving 500 career appearances and scoring 100 goals in the 2023/24 season, Magennis is now a free agent for the first time since beginning his professional career with Cardiff City in 2009.
Following his return from Northern Ireland’s June friendlies against Spain and Andorra, Magennis is actively searching for a new club and may join Exeter, led by former Wigan teammate Gary Caldwell.
Exeter’s interest in Magennis is understandable, given his experience in winning the League One title twice—first with Hull in 2021 and then with Wigan in 2022.
Commenting on his future, Magennis said: “I’m not one who’s arrogant to believe that I should be playing at a certain standard of football. That’ll just come with either age, lack of form, or just opportunity, and I’m willing to go anywhere.
“I’m going to stay in football for as long as I possibly can and see where we end up.”
Magennis is also pursuing his coaching badges and aims to add to his 79 caps and 11 goals at the international level.
