Expect Manchester United to step up their efforts to sign Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries.
Sport Witness claims that this is a result of Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, having faith in the player.
Because of Dumfries’ size and athleticism, Ten Hag—who he played with in the Eredivisie—has apparently shown interest in the Dutch defender.
This previous summer, Dumfries was also connected to United; according to The Peoples Person, the club was thinking of making a bid for the 27-year-old following months of attention.
Ten Hag even went so far as to suggest that Dumfries would be an “upgrade” over United’s current defensive options, but Fabrizio Romano insisted that a transfer was still a long way off.
The Italian reporter clarified that United was focused on signing players who were thought to be greater priorities.
Dumfries also discussed his future with Inter Milan and the potential to leave the Serie A team, in his own words.
Dumfries said, “Today football is very dynamic; players come and go. I am very proud to play for Inter. These two years have been fantastic. I am very proud of what I have and what we have done.” There’s no reason for me to go. I adore Inter, but as I’ve previously stated, we must wait and see.
As the midfielder raised questions about his future at Inter, Aston Villa joined the competition to sign Dumfries, taking on United in the process.
Even though Romano thought the Dutch full-back might be purchased for a modest €25 million to €30 million, neither team ultimately made a bid for him.
According to Calcio Mercato, in order to persuade Inter to let go of Dumfries, United could need to make a bid of €40 million if they want to pick up the player again.
Dumfries would seem like a good addition, but since the team is still connected to players like center-back Jean-Clair Todibo, they might want to search for quality elsewhere in January.
