It may seem like the simple solution – but Rangers’ clash with Dundee cannot be moved just down the road to Tannadice due to SPFL rules over VAR.
The Dark Blues face a battle to get the Wednesday night Scottish Premiership clash on with Tayside being hit by heavy rain amid a Met Office weather warning – with an 11am pitch inspection scheduled before kick-off with referee Don Robertson set to test the pitch. Weather reports suggest that the rain will be off in Dundee until around 1pm – but heavy rain is expected from that time until at 10pm.
With the league set to split this weekend it is crucial to get the game on – and some punters have floated a plan B with Tony Docherty’s side taking a walk down Tannadice Street to the home of their rivals Dundee United. Whether the two clubs could come to an agreement is one issue – but the SPFL would have to wave one of their key rules.
Jim Goodwin’s men won’t use Tannadice until April 20 when they face Ayr United. But SPFL rules state that any venue for a Premiership fixture must have VAR in place – all but ruling out the switch of venue.
Dundee managing director John Nelms has told told Sky Sports “there’s no other contingency plans” should the match be postponed for a second time. He stressed that “the timing of the rain is always an issue here” in three areas of the pitch that struggle to drain.
