Daylan McCutcheon Slams Florida State: ‘The Project Is Poor, I’ll Become Useless There’ as He Commits to Texas Longhorns

In a major recruiting victory for the Texas Longhorns, 4-star wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon has committed to the program, flipping from his original pledge to Florida State. The decision, however, was not without controversy, as McCutcheon openly criticized Florida State’s football program, citing poor facilities and a lack of player development.

McCutcheon, a 5’11” wide receiver from Lovejoy High School in Lucas, Texas, had initially committed to the Seminoles, but after a visit to Texas, his perspective shifted. In a blunt statement, McCutcheon explained his reasons for leaving Florida State, saying, “The project at Florida State is poor. I’ll become useless there if I stay. Their facilities just aren’t what I need to grow as a player.”

He added that Texas offered a far superior environment for his development. “Texas presented a much better project for me. The facilities, the coaching, and the offensive system all align with where I want to go in my career. I feel I can make a real impact here.”

This public critique is a stinging blow to Florida State, which has already struggled this season after high expectations. McCutcheon’s remarks not only highlight the program’s current shortcomings but also raise concerns about its ability to recruit and develop top talent. Florida State’s 2024 season has been riddled with disappointments, and the loss of a high-profile recruit like McCutcheon only compounds the Seminoles’ issues.

For Texas, McCutcheon’s commitment is another sign of their growing dominance in recruiting, particularly within the state. With the Longhorns preparing for a potential playoff run this season, the addition of McCutcheon solidifies their reputation as a top destination for elite talent.

As Texas celebrates McCutcheon’s arrival, Florida State faces increasing pressure to address the shortcomings that drove him away.
