Hammarby’s sporting director has acknowledged Coventry City’s interest in goalkeeper Oliver Dovin, suggesting a potential transfer could occur by the weekend. The 22-year-old missed Hammarby’s 1-0 defeat to IFK Gothenburg on Monday night due to a minor injury, and he is unlikely to play in Saturday’s Allsvenskan match against IF BP.
According to Swedish newspaper Expressen, Hammarby and Coventry City are close to finalizing a deal for Dovin, with a price tag of around SEK 20 million (£1.4 million). Football journalist Daniel Kristoffersson has described the transfer as a “done deal.”
Mikael Hjelmberg, Hammarby’s sporting director, confirmed Dovin’s injury prevented him from participating in Monday’s match. When asked about the negotiations with Coventry, Hjelmberg indicated that the talks are ongoing and that clarity on Dovin’s future is expected soon. He did not rule out the possibility of Dovin being sold to Coventry before Saturday’s match.
Hammarby is preparing for Dovin’s potential departure by considering a replacement. Warner Hahn, a 32-year-old goalkeeper from Japanese club Kyoto Sanga, is a primary candidate. Hjelmberg confirmed that if Dovin is sold, the club will need to find a replacement, and Hahn is among the options they are evaluating.
The situation remains fluid, with more information expected in the coming days as Hammarby and Coventry City work towards a final agreement.
