Rangers are set to appear in court again in December as part of the long-running dispute with kit supplier Elite Sports Group, according to the Scottish Sun.
The newspaper reported on its website on Wednesday (15 November) that the Gers are being sued for £9.5million by the company after entering into a contract with its brand partner Hummell in September 2018.
A decision by a court in London just six weeks later then ruled that the agreement breached a contract the club already had in place with Sports Direct, meaning it “couldn’t perform” the deal with Elite.
Lawyers acting for the Light Blues and the kit supplier told Judge Lord Braid at the Court of Session on Wednesday that eight days would be needed for a hearing, with four weeks to be allowed for adjustments and a further court date to take place on 21 December.
Lord Braid emphasised that he wants the hearing to be concluded by August next year.
This is an extremely complicated saga that has been ongoing for a number of years and everyone associated with the matter will likely want it to be drawn to a close as quickly as possible.
There are several issues that will have to be cleared up during the process, so it’s no surprise that the judge is allowing extra time for the two parties to get their claims in order.
Rangers would probably have been hoping the matter would be sorted before next year, but that now appears to be out of the question.
The Gers will desperately want to avoid having to pay £9.5million out to Elite as that money could be spent to help improve particular areas of the club.
The Light Blues have been with current kit supplier Castore since October 2020 after signing a five-year deal believed to be worth up to £20million.
