Chris Ballard and the Indianapolis Colts are entering a critical 2025 NFL Draft after missing the playoffs again in 2024. They’ve been aggressive this offseason, particularly on defense.
In free agency, the Colts bolstered their secondary by signing former 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward and ex-Vikings safety Camryn Bynum—two big upgrades at much-needed positions.
With the defense improved, the Colts might now turn their attention to the offensive side of the ball in the draft. In fact, Chad Reuter of NFL.com predicts a bold move: Indianapolis trading up one spot from No. 14 to No. 13 to grab Penn State tight end Tyler Warren.
Reuter notes that while Ballard rarely trades up, he might make an exception to secure Warren, a big, athletic, and reliable pass catcher. Warren could immediately elevate the Colts’ offense, filling a glaring hole at tight end.
In 2024, Warren was a standout at Penn State, recording 104 receptions for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns. His presence would be a game-changer for quarterback Anthony Richardson—or possibly Daniel Jones—and head coach Shane Steichen.
While trading up isn’t Ballard’s usual style, this scenario could be the perfect chance to add a much-needed offensive weapon.
