The rising Watford star has been poached by Premier League outfit Chelsea after impressing on the international scene.
Chelsea are set to make an investment into the future of the football club by luring promising Watford youngster Mathis Eboue to Stamford Bridge, despite the teenager’s links with London rivals Arsenal.
That’s according to The Secret Scout with the well-known outlet claiming that the Hornets’ under-16 star is to ‘finally join’ Chelsea to continue his progress in the game. Football fans may find the player’s surname familiar and that’s because he also happens to be the son of Arsenal legend Emmanuel Eboue.
The teenager is a versatile forward who can play across the front three. His dad was, of course, a former defender who made 214 appearances for the Gunners between 2004 and 2011. He was part of the Arsenal side that made it to the final of the Champions League in 2006.
His footballing skills appear to have been passed down the family. Reporter Felix Johnston has labelled the teenager as ‘powerful’ and a goal threat. He said: “Eboue looks an exciting player. Been ripping it up for Watford and England this season, already playing for their 21s and training with the 1st team at 15. 2-footed, very coordinated, excellent dribbler, powerful, great ball striking and eye for goal.”
The teenager is already involved in the England youth set-up and scored the winning goal for the Three Lions’ under-16 side against Spain in a match last month to win a tournament title, as per the Watford Observer. Eboue also scored against France in those matches, to underline his potency in front of goal.
The forward started his career in the Arsenal academy before making the short move to Watford. His father has spoken about the early stages of his son’s career before and said: “He had two choices, Chelsea and Arsenal. I didn’t tell him anything, I said: ‘Mathis it’s up to you. It doesn’t matter where, I want you to be happy’.
“And he said to me: ‘Daddy I want to play for Arsenal. I like Arsenal and you used to play here too, the people they love you, so I want to play here’.”
