According to sources, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Spurs are all interested in signing Santiago Gimenez, a striker for Feyenoord.
Gimenez led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie championship with 15 goals in 32 games during his incredible 2022–2023 season.
In just ten league games this season, he has already scored 13 goals, continuing his excellent form into the next one. In his lone Champions League matchup versus Lazio, he also scored twice.
The 22-year-old, who plays for the Mexican national team, was born in Buenos Aires. He has scored four goals in 22 appearances.
Gimenez scored the game’s lone goal in the 88th minute in the Gold Cup final against Panama, his most recent goal for his nation, coming off the bench.
The teenage striker is drawing interest from many clubs, including Tottenham and Arsenal in north London, so it is not surprising that so many teams are associated with him.
According to a recent 90-minute report, Feyenoord wants to sell for an Eredivisie record of £87 million, and interested parties include the Gunners, Spurs, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan.
Additionally, Spanish publication Nacional reports that Chelsea is ready to “fight” for Gimenez’s signature and is also “watching.”
Gimenez has, predictably, drawn comparisons to Erling Haaland of Manchester City, and one report even calls him “the Haaland Made in Mexico.”
The Norwegian international has scored 11 goals in ten Premier League games this season, including two penalty kick goals.
Gimenez averages 1.36 non-penalty goals per game compared to Haaland’s 0.91, and one of his 13 league goals in 23/24 came from the penalty spot.
In addition, the Mexican is outperforming the City Star despite having a slightly higher non-penalty xG (8.1 and 7.8). His xG is lower (10.2 and 8.9).
Gimenez’s price will likely be more than that of the Nordic robot, for whom City paid a £51 million transfer fee, according to the Nacional article. Haaland serves as a benchmark, so these comparisons are not surprising.
The striker for Feyenoord believes that Real Madrid and Arsenal are “two very succulent destinations,” it continues.
Gimenez can play at the Bernabeu since Carlo Ancelotti only has Joselu as an option for an all-star striker.
In the meantime, Gimenez would be “compatible” with Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah of Arsenal, suggesting that the two might create a potent strike force and keep Nketiah on the sidelines.
