Charlton Athletic are looking to bring in some attacking reinforcements this summer. Nathan Jones’ side have shortlisted Charles Sagoe Jr. as their ideal man.
A sup-par 16th-placed finish left Charlton scarily close to the drop zone this season, considering their usual standards. Alfie May’s heroics with 23 league goals in the recent campaign is a notable reason why Athletic were okay in the end. Jones will be looking for a more ambitious season with a play-off space as the main intention.
The former Luton Town head coach took charge in February 2024, replacing Michael Appleton at The Valley, and is hoping to steer the club back to the Championship while being able to instil his own tactical set-up and personalised signings this window. The East London side have finished around the mid-table point in League One for the past three seasons.
A recent report has suggested that Charles Sagoe Jr. is an ideal fit for the 51-year-old; Jones is looking for a wide player to replace Kazenga LuaLua, who has recently been released by the club. Sagoe offers an exciting profile of pace and trickery, which the 19-year-old has displayed in 16 academy appearances for Arsenal.

The Gunners are prepared to sanction another loan deal for the English talent, despite only featuring twice for Swansea City over his entire six-month deal last season. Sagoe has already featured once for Arsenal in the third round of the EFL Cup, so he mainly operates for his parent club in the Premier League 2, UEFA Youth League and the EFL Trophy.
Charlton will likely implement the 19-year-old into their system as a left-winger, as his exploits for the academy side have resulted in three goals and ten assists. Sagoe Jr. is a unique, two-footed player who will potentially be able to flourish at the Valley next season.
