The NBA world was shocked the other day when attendees of a Chicago Bulls game booed the widow of late general manager Jerry Krause.
Speaking on Inside The NBA, Charles Barkley shared his opinion on the ugly incident.
Barkley said:
“It was a complete disgrace to the legacy of the Chicago Bulls… Whether you like Jerry Krause or not, that man’s dead… His wife is there, and y’all made that lady cry and that was total BS… That hurt my heart watching that thing.”
Late last week the Bulls held a ceremony to induct icons of the team into the “Ring of Honor.”
The idea was that the team would celebrate the people who helped turn the Bulls into a dynasty and one of the most iconic NBA franchises of all time.
Krause, who passed away in 2017, was one of the many people inducted and was represented by his widow Thelma.
However, when Krause’s name was mentioned, a chorus of boos was heard.
The boos were so loud that Thelma became visibly emotional and fought back tears.
The event has led to a larger conversation about fan conduct and cruelty in popular sports.
Many people, including Gregg Popovich, Steve Kerr, and others have spoken out against the people who booed Krause.
It’s not clear how many people were booing and there were definitely a lot more people cheering for Krause.
Still, it was a very disturbing moment that didn’t sit well with Barkley and many others.
Nasty crowds have always been a part of popular sports, unfortunately, but this was particularly bad.
Like many others, Barkley believes that people should have held their tongues, no matter what they feel about Krause and his tenure running the team.
Their actions turned a heartwarming event into a heartbreaking one.
