Canterbury has moved a step closer to signing league’s most wanted man – Knights juggernaut Leo Thompson – after a secret meeting at Belmore on Wednesday.
With club supremo Phil Gould unavailable, Thompson had a face-to-face chat with Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo and both parties reportedly came away happy with the discussions.
Thompson, who led the Knights forwards in rousing style this season, will remain with the club for 2025 but is in hot demand for the following year.
Clubs have been permitted to talk to the Kiwi colossus since November 1 and the Bulldogs, Eels and Raiders are all keen to gain his signature.
But after today’s talks, the Bulldogs – with plenty of cash up their sleeves in the salary cap – look to be firm favourites to sign the big prop.
The Bulldogs have been building steadily in recent seasons and the one thing they still lack is a barnstorming front-rower – and Thompson would fill the bill perfectly.
