Former Slough Town midfielder Cameron McGilp has recently shared a personal reflection on his career decisions, admitting that his departure from the National League South side may have been a mistake. McGilp, now 26 and currently playing for Oakleigh Cannons in Australia’s National Premier Leagues, has expressed that his time at Slough was crucial to his development and that leaving the club disrupted the positive momentum he had built.
The Scottish-born Australian player joined Slough Town in 2020 after a brief loan at Hungerford Town. During his short time with Slough, McGilp featured in eight games and quickly became a valued member of the squad, earning the respect of teammates and fans alike. His departure in 2021 to Gloucester City was seen as a natural progression for the young midfielder, but now, McGilp feels it may not have been the best move for his career.

I didn’t realize how much the club meant to me until I left,” he said.
