Brian To’o has firmly stated he is not reconsidering his future at the Penrith Panthers, even as he grapples with the impending departure of his close friend, Jarome Luai. The star winger, a pivotal player in the Panthers’ three consecutive premiership victories, will remain the last member of his tight-knit group in 2025.
With teammates Stephen Crichton and Spencer Leniu already departing for the Bulldogs and Roosters, respectively, Luai’s anticipated move to the Wests Tigers adds to the emotional weight for To’o. In a recent interview with 9News Sydney, he emphasized his commitment to ensuring Luai’s farewell is marked with another championship.
“Romey [Luai] is pretty much the last one out of my crew to leave,” To’o shared. “That’s been my top priority thus far—not only for him but also for [Sunia Turuva] and [James Fisher-Harris]. That’s who I want to do it for.”
As the Panthers prepare for their upcoming preliminary final, the loss of Luai and Fisher-Harris—who is set to join the Warriors—presents significant challenges. However, To’o remains steadfast in his dedication to the club, rejecting any thoughts of seeking an early release from his contract, which runs through 2027.
“This club means everything to me. It’s my home, and god willing, I hope to stay for a little bit longer,” he stated.
Penrith is poised to compete for a spot in a fifth consecutive grand final, taking on the winner of the Sharks vs. Cowboys match next weekend. As To’o leads his team with unwavering determination, the Panthers continue their quest for glory amidst a changing landscape.
