Quinn Hughes has tied Alex Edler for the most assists by a defenceman in Vancouver Canucks history with 310. Hughes tied the record against the Buffalo Sabres when he recorded the primary assist on Conor Garland’s overtime goal. The Canucks captain achieved the feat in only 387 games and is now 53 points away from tying Edler for the most points by a defenceman in franchise history.
While he has only played 387 games, it is safe to say that Hughes is the greatest defenceman in franchise history. He is the only player in Vancouver’s history to win the Norris Trophy and is scheduled to play for Team U.S.A. in the upcoming 4-Nations Face-Off. Hughes’ 310 assists sit tied for seventh all-time in franchise history, while his 358 points rank 22nd.
Since making his NHL debut on March 28, 2019, only one defenceman has more points than Hughes. That defenceman is Cale Makar, who has 366 points in 338 games. Both defenders are early favourites for this year’s Norris Trophy as they sit first and second in scoring by defensemen in 2024-25.
