BREAKING – Coventry City Clinches Deal to Sign Swedish Goalkeeper

Coventry City are reported to have successfully completed negotiations to sign Swedish goalkeeper Oliver Dovin from Hammarby.

The Sky Blues have been linked with the 22-year-old international for the last three or four weeks as Mark Robins looks to increase the quality and competition in the specialist position in the team.

Although the club has remained tight-lipped about the reported interest in the player – in line with this summer’s strict stance of saying nothing about transfers until they are announced – reports in the Swedish press have given pretty much a running commentary on the progress of the deal. Here’s what we know so far from what the papers are saying in Dovin’s home country.

The very latest news comes from football journalist Daniel Kristoffersson, who writes for SportBladet. With more than 66k followers on X, he posted at the weekend that: “Oliver Dovin to Coventry City is a done deal as Dovin is expected to go to England on Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Meanwhile, Fotbollskanalen are reporting that Dovin will be “missing” from tonight’s (Mon, July 15) Allsvenskan home game with IFK Gothenburg, a fact confirmed by Hammarby, who say that: “Dovin is missing from the team’s match squad for Monday’s meeting with Blåvitt (Gothenburg).”

The same publication says Dovin is “rumoured to be leaving” Hammarby.

Adding further weight to the move is the fact that another outlet, TuttoSvenskan, has claimed Dovin’s club have already identified a replacement for their number one stopper, reporting: “Warner Hahn, previously in IFK Gothenburg and most recently in Japan, is ready for Hammarby as a replacement for Oliver Dovin. Expected to be official shortly.”

The keeper, who is seen as one of the best in the Swedish Allsvenskan top flight, is, according to Swedish newspaper Expressen, costing the Sky Blues “just over” 20million krona (£1.4m). Hammarby will have a sell-on clause in order to benefit from any future sale of the player.

City flew out to Valencia from Stansted Airport on Sunday for a week-long training camp, which will culminating in a pre-season friendly behind-closed-doors match against Getafe CF on Friday evening.

SportSynergy understands Dovin is not in Spain with the squad where the club’s medical staff are currently working.
