The New York Rangers are continuing to struggle, having lost six out of their last seven games. Due to their struggles, they have informed teams that they are ready for a roster shakeup, and several of their players have become trade candidates.
Recently, we here at The Hockey News Boston discussed Chris Kreider as a potential trade target for the Bruins. However, the Rangers also have another intriguing option worth considering in winger Kaapo Kakko.
On a recent episode of TSN Insider Trading, NHL insider Darren Dreger reported that Kakko’s name has resurfaced in the trade market, and he is another Rangers forward who could be dealt. With the Bruins needing more offense, he could be an interesting player for the Original Six club to take a chance on.
Kakko has had a nice start to the season, posting four goals, 13 points, and a plus-10 rating in 24 games. With numbers like these, he could be a nice player for the Bruins to add to their middle six and struggling power play.
Another appealing aspect about Kakko is that he is still young enough to hit a new level. He was selected as the second overall pick of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft for a reason. Perhaps a change of scenery could help him take that next step.
Nevertheless, with the Bruins’ forward group needing a boost, Kakko could be a nice player with upside for them to take a shot on.
