Bradford City manager Graham Alexander confirmed an offer had been accepted after the Bantams had beaten Bromley 3-1 at the weekend. He said:
“It is the second bid by this club. It is up to Jake to decide his future. No decision has been made from Jake’s side.”
It seems the player has not yet come to a decision, but The Yorkshire Post adds that the club is believed to be Fleetwood Town, who are in the market for another option up top before the window slams shut.
Bradford City look ready to cut their ties with 23-year-old striker Young. Alexander’s decision to publicise that the club has accepted a second bid seems to suggest his future lies away from Valley Parade.
Young was loaned out last season to Swindon Town and was in red-hot form for the Robins. In 25 appearances for them, he scored 16 goals and registered four assists, which led to him coming back to the Bantams fold when the loan term expired.
Upon his return to the West Yorkshire club, there was a degree of unrest. He managed four League Two appearances before the end of the season, with no goals or assists registered in this run despite his electric form prior.
With the bids being in, all that remains is for Huddersfield-born Young to decide whether to take up Fleetwood’s offer. The other option is to remain at Bradford City and fight for his place.
Bradford City look to have made the decision to cut ties with Young, and it feels like the right one. He’s not appeared in City’s League Two campaign to date, only playing 24 minutes in the Carabao Cup.
Alexander’s men are flying high at the moment. They sit 2nd in the League Two table and are unbeaten after three games.
Veteran striker Andy Cook has already opened his account for the Bantams and is a good bet to hit a high tally once again this season. Last time around, he netted 17 times for the West Yorkshire club, and 28 the season before.
The club also has highly-rated youngster Bobby Pointon who is expected to be amongst the goals. They have also brought in the likes of Tyreik Wright and Oliver Sanderson so have attacking options.
All in all, Bradford City deciding to sanction a move for Young is a perfectly justified decision by the club.
