Andy Thompson, a Molineux icon, praised Mario Lemina for his tenacity and ‘passion’ to score the game-winning goal for Wolves against Tottenham Hotspur.
Wanderers fans are ecstatic after witnessing their club come from behind to defeat Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux. Pablo Sarabia came off the bench to score a stunning goal before assisting Lemina for the game-winning goal.
The 2-1 victory was deserved. The Wolves had played some really nice football at times and worked very hard out of possession.
A lot of the talk has been about Sarabia and the impact he had. Pundits Garth Crooks and Alan Shearer have both selected him in their respective Premier League Teams of the Week.
But Lemina grabbed the win for Wolves, and Thompson has moved to highlight something he did just before he scored…

Wolves legend Thompson was on punditry duty for the club’s Matchday Live Extra show.
Most of the talk has been about that fine winner from Sarabia. It really was a thing of beauty for the Spaniard.
But the winner from Lemina was also very impressive in its construction. Tommy Doyle must take a lot of credit for his quick thinking. He spotted Sararbia on the winger and fizzed it out to him.
Thompson said of Lemina, though: “What it does (a quick free-kick), because the Tottenham team hadn’t set themselves, allows you to get at Tottenham. By doing that, people in the central position are standing still and looking, but Lemina didn’t; he was the one who was fouled, got himself back up, and has absolutely gone straight into the penalty area, and Sarabia picked him out.
“That shows you the desire he has, and I thought he played really well throughout the game.”

The goal from Lemina was so satisfying to see. It was a risk from Doyle to play quickly, especially because Jose Sa might have come forward to take it and put it into the penalty area for the likes of Sasa Kalajdzic and Craig Dawson to attack.
But it obviously paid off, and Lemina does deserve great credit for getting in there to score. Especially since he was the player who’d just been fouled.
The £10 million star is not particularly known for bursting forward into attacking positions.
But as Thompson says, he showed real desire, just as all the Wolves players did for the majority of the game. In a way, it was a goal that epitomized the Wolves’ performance as a collective.
