After an incredible 2022 NFL season that resulted in a short but sweet playoff run, the New York Giants have taken two steps back during the 2023 campaign, with the storied franchise unable to get anything going until recently.
One of the main problems for the Giants this season has been in the health department, with the team losing starting quarterback Daniel Jones to a season-ending injury while also seeing star running back Saquon Barkley battling injuries once again this season.
Although it seemed as though all was lost with the Giants in the running to be considered the worst team in the NFL in 2023, New York has gotten a little momentum going with a three-game winning streak coming into Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints.
Even though it was a rough start to his stint as the Giants starting quarterback, Tommy DeVito has turned a lot of heads around the league as of late, as he’s stepped it up over the past three weeks of the regular season.
DeVito has been so good taking over for Jones over the past three games that Marcus Spears of ESPN believes the backup-turned-starter is better than the entire Saints offense, via NFL on ESPN.
The 25-year-old rookie has led the Giants to wins over the Washington Commanders, New England Patriots, and Green Bay Packers, with the first-year quarterback seemingly starting to figure out how not to turn the football over.
As for New Orleans, the team has dealt with some internal strife as of late and is battling it out with two other teams for the NFC South crown in order to punch their ticket to the playoffs.
It’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top in this matchup and whether DeVito can outplay Derek Carr in order to secure a fourth straight win for the Giants.
