SOUTHEND United striker Danny Waldron wants his impressive performance against Boreham Wood to be the sign of things to come.
Waldron had a hand in three of Blues’ four goals in their win at Roots Hall last time out.
And the forward is determined to produce more of the same at Wealdstone on Tuesday night as he aims to make the most of his first ever taste of full-time football.
“The first time of doing it at 27 is older than a lot of people coming into it so I want to make it last as long as possible,” said Waldron.
“I’ve worked in finance and before that I was a delivery driver for a windows and doors company.
“I was working on site and helping to fit them as well so I’ve been on construction sites, I’ve been in an office and done it all really.
“It’s been a wide variety of jobs but this is definitely the best and I’ll never take it for granted.”
Waldron joined the Shrimpers in January after impressing with Rushall Olympic in National League South this season.
But he initially found it tough going.
“With it being the first time I’ve played full-time, there was no muscle memory or anything like that and that’s why it was probably so tough at the start,” said Waldron.
“The hardest thing was getting used to training the day before the game.
“For a few weeks I was almost fatigued from minute one in games because I wasn’t used to the training but now I feel like I’m getting the benefits from it.
“I feel sharper and quicker.”
And that certainly showed during the 4-2 win against Boreham Wood.
“I was really pleased with how it went,” said Waldron.
